Application Bis(Trimethylsilyl)Methyl Chloride serves as a versatile C1 building block with a wide range of applications It is prominently used in Peterson olefination reactions and participates readily in Kumada cross-coupling reactions involving aryl and vinyl halides Additionally it is valuable in the synthesis of methylenephosphine analogs and acts as a sterically demanding ligand for various main group and transition metal complexes As a reagent it facilitates the preparation of Para-bis(trimethylsilyl)ethylstyrene (PBTES) monomer which is important for synthesizing network polymers of styrene as well as Bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl magnesium chloride (a Grignard reagent) which reacts with alkenyl bromide in Kumada coupling to produce bis(trimethylsilyl) allyl compounds It is also used in synthesizing N-[Bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]heterocumulenes
