Application | (3-Mercaptopropyl)Trimethoxysilane, also known as trimethoxysilylpropanethiol, is a bifunctional organosilane with reactive organic mercapto and hydrolyzable inorganic methoxysilyl groups. This clear to light yellow liquid is commonly used as a coupling agent to enhance the adhesion of sulfur-cured elastomers to various surfaces and fillers. It is also utilized to improve the properties of mineral-filled elastomers, such as modulus, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance. In addition, (3-Mercaptopropyl)Trimethoxysilane finds application in coating materials for protection against corrosion, improving oil recovery in the petroleum industry, and as an absorbent for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. It is a versatile molecule with applications ranging from surface modification to electrode fabrication and nanocrystal capping. |
