Application Tris(Trimethylsilyl)Borate serves a dual purpose in enhancing the performance of lithium-ion batteries and acting as an intermediate in organic synthesis As an additive in lithium battery electrolytes it significantly improves the cycle performance of various high-voltage cathode materials such as LiMn2O4 LiNi05Co02Mn03O2 LiNi05Mn15O4 and layered lithium-rich oxide cathodes TMSB is particularly effective at increasing the cycle life of Li-ion batteries with LiMn2O4 and LiFePO4 cathodes when operating at elevated temperatures It outperforms alternatives like tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphate by forming a cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI) film rich in boron and silicon compounds which helps suppress the growth of interfacial resistance TMSB's ability to easily complex with lithium ions disrupts the interaction between these ions and the ethylene carbonate solvent enhancing overall cycle performance Additionally the altered solvation structure of lithium ions forms a thin and dense CEI film with Si–O and B–O bonds improving lithium-ion transfer during battery operation
