| Application | It is used as a cross-linking agent in silicone polymers and a precursor of silica in the semiconductor industry. It is also used as a source of silica for the synthesis of certain zeolites. Other applications include coatings for carpets and other objects. It is used in the production of aerogels. These applications take advantage of the reactivity of the Si-OR bond. Historically, it has been used as an additive for alcohol-based rack-mounted fuels, thereby reducing the heat flux into the cabin walls of regeneratively cooled engines by more than 50%. |
